Counselor
Job Summary:
- Full Time: 40 hours per week with flexible schedule; In-person
- Location/On-Site: 4201 N. 16th St, Phoenix, AZ 85016
- Salary: $50,000 (DOE)
Provides one-on-one and group counseling to women and their families requiring assistance dealing with substance use disorders. Clinical care is gender-specific and trauma-informed to cater to the needs of the special population served. The clinical environment is collaborative, fluid, and team-based. The AWRC model embraces and encourages long-term care to cultivate connection and healing. Clinicians regularly perform intakes, develop treatment plans, and monitor the progress of clients. AWRC Counselors shall report to the Clinical Director. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Essential Responsibilities:
The Counselor’s duties and responsibilities include:
- Conducts client intake, screening, and evaluation to assess and determine enrollment status, appropriate level of care, and direct development of appropriate treatment interventions for women seeking substance use disorder treatment.
- Provide mental health assessments, counseling, referrals, and intervention services.
- Counsels chemically dependent persons and their families. Manages a caseload of chemically dependent clients, coordinating treatment needs from enrollment to discharge.
- Facilitates case management tasks in concert with case management staff as needed.
- Completes all necessary administrative paperwork within prescribed timelines and maintains high-quality, confidential records.
- Participates in ongoing assignment of appropriate placement of clients with various treatment needs.
- Maintains general knowledge of community resources.
- Supports and works collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff members in developing treatment plans and coordination of care.
- Works ethically and is mindful of protecting client rights and confidentiality in therapeutic practice, documentation, and coordination of care.
- Recognizes and respects cultural aspects of treatment and individual differences.
- Demonstrates professional and ethical behavior toward all clients, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Records and documents client information in compliance with organizational and professional standards.
- Ensures compliance with all necessary reporting requirements and billing procedures.
- Adherence to all Arizona laws regarding the use of seat belts and car seats with agency vehicles to ensure the safety of clients while transporting them.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The Counselor must possess the following qualifications:
- One of the following:
- Master’s Degree in a behavioral health field and a minimum of two years post-Master’s experience in substance abuse counseling, or
- Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree and a minimum of four years post-education experience in substance abuse counseling, required
- Licensed as a Substance Abuse Counselor in Arizona, preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, required
- Excellent interpersonal skills, required
- A valid Arizona Driver’s License, required
- Must pass a background check
- Must pass a drug screening
- Must have a minimum of one-year AOD
- Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, drive a vehicle, lift up to 10 pounds

Peer Support Specialist/Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)
Job Summary:
2 Full Time:
- Monday to Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM or
- Sunday to Wednesday from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM
1 Part Time:
- Thursday from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Friday & Saturday, from 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM
Location/On-Site: Phoenix, AZ 85016
Salary: $15.50 Hourly
AWRC provides supportive and rehabilitative services to individuals and their families requiring assistance dealing with substance use issues, such as alcohol or drug use, mental health disorders and other co-occurring mental or physical health needs.
AWRC Peer Support Specialist shall report to the Clinical Director or a licensed/certified staff member assigned by the Clinical Director (such as a direct program supervisor). This is a safety-sensitive position.
Essential Responsibilities:
The Peer Support Specialist’s duties and responsibilities include:
- Serves as a live experienced expert, mentor, teacher, and advocate.
- Provides supportive services to adults recovering from alcohol and drug addiction including peer support, case management, community/service referral, education, living skills training, outreach, employment assistance and relationship skills training.
- Providing support could include: Teaching independence (autonomy), focus and identify a person’s strengths, listen to people’s experiences, role model that people can recover and be healthy, encourage people to succeed, and teach recovery.
- Provides supportive services, including education and community/service referral to family members of adult clients.
- Understands and recognizes the “Stages of Change,” for each individual client.
- Reads and implements client treatment plans under the supervision of the appropriate supervisor.
- Provides transportation to and from appointments, driving a 12-passenger van transporting women and infants to community resources, appointments, 12-step meetings, etc. This includes adherence to all Arizona laws regarding use of seat belts and car seats with agency vehicles to ensure the safety of clients while transporting them.
- All services are to be delivered within the scope of the agency and the peer support specialist’s personal skills and knowledge. In addition, all services are to be delivered under the supervision of the appropriate supervisor and the Clinical Director.
- Recognizes, prevents, and responds to client crisis situations.
- Assists clients in accessing community services and resources.
- Records and documents client information in compliance with organizational standards.
- Ensures compliance with all necessary reporting requirements and billing procedures.
- Protects client rights and confidentiality.
- Recognizes and respects cultural differences.
- Demonstrates ethical behavior toward all client, staff and community stakeholders.
- Practices and role-models positive mental hygiene and the use of recovery tools to ensure overall personal wellness.
- Participate at minimum monthly supervision.
- Other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to assisting various departments and assisting with front reception and clerical duties as needed.
Qualifications:
The Peer Support Specialist must possess the following qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or G.E.D
- Peer Support Specialist Certification from the State of Arizona, preferred (we can assist with licensing)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Must pass a Background Check
- Must pass drug screening and must have one-year AOD
